Camelford and Week St Mary Methodist Circuit
Between 1749 and 1789 John Wesley made more than 30 visits to Camelford; his visits were not without incident and on one occasion the Mayor organised a crowd to through stones at Wesley and chased him out of town. John Wesley often referred to Camelford as one of the wettest towns in England!.

When Wesley visited Camelford the chapel was simply a room in someone's house and most of his preaching was done outdoors.

The first formal chapel in Camelford was built in 1810 and is now a private house. The Free Methodist Chapel was built in 1837 following "The Disruption" when the central Methodist organisation was thought by some to be too authoritarian so a breakaway group set up "Free" chapels of which Camelford Methodist Chapel is one. It was described as a "neat building - an ornament to the town.

The chapel continues to serve the local and surrounding communities. There is a coffee morning on the first Thursday of each month at 10.30am, Messy Church, a space for families to have fun and be creative together, is held on the last Tuesday of each month at 3.15pm and Circuit Prayers are held every Saturday morning at 8.30am.
