April News Letter

Dear Friends Another quarter, another plan…. And there will be those who grumble that there are increasing numbers of fellowship services (CFs) and regrettably the numbers of these will increase as time goes by. Next year there will be only one minister – that’s at least one more CF per week and more probably two: our LPs are getting older and fewer feel able to offer doubles or do an early or an evening service – there are a few more; and the congregations to which those preachers are sent can usually be counted on their fingers, sometimes the fingers of one hand. What are we going to do about this? During the past month I have had it suggested that we should bulldoze the chapels rather than let them be sold out of respect for the dead in the graveyards, that it is alright as long as ‘it sees me out my dear’; that we should renovate the buildings and give them to the community …. And no-one has suggested that we should take active measures to be contagious Christians and share our faith with the increasingly secular society in which we live. Jesus never told us to build church buildings. He told us to make disciples! He told us to watch and pray and to study the Scriptures and above all to live them. Please, please will you do just that. Pray alone and together and ask God for His guidance in finding a way to bring the saving Word of the Gospel to the people we meet. Think how we can capture people’s interest, arouse their curiosity and offer worship and study which is accessible and exciting. Maybe we have to drop the treasured legacy of the past and move into a new future – just as Wesley and the early Methodists did. Please my friends – think about it and pray. Don’t we all want to see the Church grow, the Christian heritage of this country honoured and above all more and more people brought into the living experience of eternal life. What are we going to do about it. May God bless you and strengthen you all Doreen

Dear Friends

Another quarter, another plan…. During the past month I have had it suggested that we should bulldoze the chapels rather than let them be sold out of respect for the dead in the graveyards, that it is alright as long as ‘it sees me out my dear’; that we should renovate the buildings and give them to the community …. Please my friends – think about it and pray. Don’t we all want to see the Church grow, the Christian heritage of this country honoured and above all more and more people brought into the living experience of eternal life. What are we going to do about it.

May God bless you and strengthen you all
